Matchweek 5 Preview

After my first round triumph in the Champions League, water ended up finding its level in the second day of games. Liverpool failed to get 3 points at home, Porto fell to Besiktas at home, City ran wild all over Feyenoord and Tottenham finally broke the Wembley curse that hung over them for a year now.

2-6, PARLAY 0-1

Total 28-26-3, Parlays 5-6

The good news is that footy literally never stops and we have another awesome slate on our hands this weekend for Matchweek 5. Let’s dive right into the games:

This game already happened so here’s the update: Brighton & Hove Albion traveled to Bournemouth with both teams having unexpected starts to their season. Bournemouth the promising side over the last two seasons, had lost their first 4 matches with only scoring 1 goal. Brighton, on the other hand, pulled 4 points from their first 3 games which isn’t half bad for a promoted side who played Leicester and Man City already. Brighton took a 1-0 lead early in the second half, but squandered it as Bournemouth surmounted too much pressure on the away side and tacked on 2 goals before the 90th minute to win 2-1.

Southampton @ Crystal Palace 7:30am ET:

Southampton (Pick -125)
Crystal Palace (Pick +105)
Draw (+200)

Crystal Palace fired their manager Frank De Boer this week, causing some fans to be upset as he only had 4 matches to prove his worth. With that being said Palace has lost all 4 games and have yet to score a goal, so, kind of the right decision. Players tend to rally around newly hired managers and Southampton has yet to truly prove themselves this season. Palace win 2-1 (Pick +105).

Manchester City @ Watford 10:00 am ET:

Man City (-294, -1½)
Watford (+775, +1½)
Draw (+400)

Man City come in off of a huge 5-0 victory over Liverpool last weekend and another big 4-0 Champions League victory. To be honest -294 is somewhat disrespectful with how this team is beginning to play, and I see them running with a big 3-1 victory. City -1½.

Other Saturday Picks:

Newcastle United +136
Huddersfield Town +½
West Brom +130
Liverpool -1½
Swansea City +2

How I feel about the matches on Sunday (And that they’ll end before 1:00 NFL kickoffs):giphy4

Arsenal @ Chelsea 8:30 am ET:

Arsenal (+300)
Chelsea (-128)
Draw (+285)

Starting off the early Sunday with a cracker on our hands as the Gunners travel across London to take on Chelsea. Chelsea whooped their lowly opponent in Champions League (Qarabag) 6-0 as Arsenal had to come back from 1-0 down to 3-1 up to take 3 points from Koln, who invaded the Emirates with around 20,000 fans (only 5,000 tickets were allocated to their fans). These games usually involve 3 or more goals so the over seems appetizing but I suck at picking overs so take it at your own risk.

Arsenal haven’t beaten a team who finished top 6 in the league since January 2015 and Chelsea have beaten them the last 5 times in the league at home. It doesn’t look good for Gunners as their shaky play (even with results) will come back to haunt them in this one. Chelsea are too strong of a side to give up 3 points at home and they’ll put Arsenal fans back in the dumps once again. Chelsea 3-0.

Everton @ Manchester United 11:00 am ET:

Everton (+725)
Manchester United (-294, -1½)
Draw (+390)

Wayne Rooney returns to Manchester United for the first time since losing, and there’s no doubt that the club’s all-time leading scorer will have an emotional return. But it will be short-lived, as United have posed one of the bigger threats not just in England but in Europe as a whole. Lukaku will continue his run to be arguably the league’s most elite pure target man and pick up at least a goal. United 2-0.

Major League Soccer Picks:

Atlanta United -1
Chicago Fire -1
Sporting Kansas City -1
San Jose Earthquakes (Pick -155) FEEL THE TREMOR

Premier League:
Liverpool (-425), Manchester City (-300), Tottenham (-450) = EVEN

Rest of Europe:
FC Barcelona (-390), Atletico Madrid (-450), Bayern (-850), Dortmund (-425)= +110

Roma (-550), Napoli (-950), Bayern (-850), Monaco (-550), Dortmund (-425) = +110

I should be getting back on the right foot this weekend, and there are some awesome games on Saturday and especially Sunday so I know I’ll enjoy my weekend.

Stay kickin’ it. Peace.
