Matchweek 13 Preview

After a weekend which included 3 massive derbys, the dust has finally settled. London is red, Madrid is… red and white, and Rome belongs to Roma. After Arsenal’s triumphant win, they sit only a point behind Spurs who are in 4th. In fact the Premier League race is so tight that 2nd place and 7th place are 4 points apart with City leading the charge with a commanding 8 point lead.

In Spain, Barcelona become the real winners of the Madrid Derby’s draw as Atletico and Real fall 10 points behind them. Real’s offense still looks like they are yet to find their identity which is shocking, as their only hope to make an impact this year looks like it will have to be in the Champions League. Messi says thank you…

These next few weeks begin a wild slate of matches, one that managers in the Premier League are not happy about. Matches this past weekend, matches this upcoming weekend, more next week in the midweek and then wrapping up with next weekend again. That means that teams may be playing 3 matches in 8-9 days, leaving little to no time to prepare. Buuuutttt that means we get to indulge in some delicious footy as the holiday season begins to come around. I ain’t complaining that’s for sure.

Let’s get into this week.

Leicester City (Pick-110) @ West Ham United

Leicester have not lost a match (outside this past weekend against City which I just won’t count) since the start of September, leaving the PICK a delicious choice. West Ham are in some trouble as they haven’t won in the league since the end of September.

Bonus Pick:

Strasbourg @ Saint-Etienne (-115)

Stoke City (+½) @ Crystal Palace

Shockingly, last place Palace haven’t lost a home Premier League game in 4 home matches after having the worst start in Premier League history. Stoke haven’t lost in their last 3 tilts and have started to score some goals.

Brighton @ Manchester United (-2)

United have been playing well outside of their Europa League loss on Thursday, and the return of Pogba and Rojo have given them more support. They’ve been really good at home, scoring and winning by multiple goals against non top-6 sides.

Watford (+½) @ Newcastle United

I’ve said it a lot recently; don’t sleep on Watford. They haven’t lost by more than a goal against non top-6 teams and are starting to play some solid footy. Newcastle meanwhile have lost 3 in a row in the league, and haven’t gotten a W in a month.

Bournemouth (Pick -110) @ Swansea City

Bournemouth are starting to find some form, winning 4 of their last 5. Swansea meanwhile, well, they’ve been shit (sorry Big Cat). They’ve lost all of their last 5 matches, and 7 of their last 8. 5 of those 8 games have been at home…

West Brom @ Tottenham (-1½)

Tottenham are just a much better side and have played well recently with wins against teams like Real Madrid and Dortmund. Their only losses recently have come against Man U and Arsenal, and I don’t see hem finding trouble at home against West Brom.

Chelsea (+½) @ Liverpool NBC 12:30

Chelsea travel to Liverpool in the match of the weekend, as both teams have been in great form. Chelsea have yet to lose in the league since their shock defeat to Palace in mid-October. Liverpool haven’t won by less than 3 goals in their last 3 matches in the league since their defeat at Tottenham. But to me, Chelsea are better almost top to bottom than Liverpool but it is always tough to go to Anfield and get a win. But to not be favored in this is almost an insult to Chelsea and I love it. Take Chelsea (+½).

Everton @ Southampton (-120)

There’s no way around it, Everton have been horrible this season with 12 points through 12 matches and a -12 goal differential. Southampton haven’t been much better, but are historically good at home against Everton. Regardless, don’t watch this game as it’s probably gonna suck.

Arsenal @ Burnley (+1)

Burnley have been the story of the season so far, as they sit tied in 6th with their opponents on Sunday Arsenal. They’ve only scored 12 goals, but have only let up 9 which is 4th best in the league. They’ve won their last 3 and haven’t lost in the league since August (AUGUST!!!!). Let Burnley eat!

Manchester City (-2) @ Huddersfield Town

I was an idiot and picked Leicester against City last week for the first time all year. Not making that mistake again. I expect myself to pick City every week as they’ve been unstoppable and seem to have no limit to what they can do. Come on you City!!
The start to the most grueling portion of the season begins, and I hope we can all indulge in these games through this next week or so as much as we all enjoyed our Thanksgiving dinners.
