Matchweek 7 Preview

What a midweek we had this week so let’s just jump right into it.

Outside the 18

Manchester United – United lost AT HOME to Frank Lampard’s Derby County in a penalty shootout. Mourinho’s sinking ship is almost completely sunk after they not only lost, but were completely outplayed by a Championship side. Before the match, Mourinho announced that Pogba will no longer be considered as a captain and after the match Pogba allegedly announced his interest in leaving the club. All of this boiled over the next day in training where a video caught them both jawing at each other which led to Mourinho sending Pogba home. The GIF’s below from left to right show their interaction at training.

Carabao Cup Continued – Chelsea came back at Liverpool to win 2-1 thanks to a worldy from Hazard, City cruised 3-0 and Spurs needed penalties to get past Watford.

US Open Cup Final – The 105th US Open Cup, the third longest domestic cup competition in the world, was played between the Union and the Dynamo. Sadly for me, the Union are cursed. The domestic cup final was kind to the hosts Houston as they cruised to a 3-0 for the Union’s third Cup Final loss in 5 years. Houston raised their first ever US Open Cup trophy in the process.

Barca/Madrid – Both La Liga giants lost this week as Barcelona lost at last-place Leganes to the tune of 2-1 while Real Madrid lost at Sevilla 3-0. Barcelona are lucky for Madrid to lose, but should not have dropped points at Leganes in the first place. They now have identical records atop La Liga.

Let’s get to the matches this week where we have several HUGE matches around Europe. I’m going to try something new and just stick to previewing (but still picking all) only the matches I deem fit for a preview.

All-Time Record: 37-32-7 (+0.6 Units)
Matchweek 6 Record: 6-3-1 (+2.9 Units)

Heck of a week from your boy as I’m slowly starting to get a feel of the league and the teams this season. Let’s keep it running!!

Saturday, September 29th
7:30 am EST

Manchester United @ West Ham West Ham showed in the London Derby on Saturday that they’ve started to turn it around as they drew 0-0 to Chelsea. They now run into United who are in complete shambles and I honestly don’t want to stop picking West Ham. Teams get streaky randomly in this league and as home dogs against a weird United side, I like them to cover here. West Ham (+0.5, +110).

10:00 am EST

Watford @ Arsenal An odd spread here as Watford are being given a point and a half to cover this one. I like how Arsenal are playing now and they’re really starting to turn it around, but I can’t fade a team like Watford who have played every team either really well or really close. A 2-1 W v Spurs, a 2-1 L v United and the rest of the schedule they have stayed undefeated. I love the points here. Watford (+1.5, -135).

Fulham @ Everton Everton bounce back at home here. Everton (-0.5, -130).

Tottenham @ Huddersfield – Tottenham (-1, -130).

Brighton @ Manchester City I can’t believe I’m doing this, but I think Brighton covers with 2 and a half points being given here. It’s a lot of points and City aren’t always going to win by 5 goals in the league. Yes, their last 3 domestic matches have been 3-0, 5-0 and 3-0, but I just feel that they aren’t going to pull away against Brighton who have yet to lose by more than 2 and have only lost by 2 once this season. Brighton (+2.5, +120).

Leicester City @ Newcastle – Newcastle (Pick, -120).

Southampton @ Wolves2 UNIT PLAY, Wolves (-0.5, -125).

12:30 pm EST

Liverpool @ Chelsea A rematch of the midweek Carabao Cup match where Eden Hazard led a comeback to win 2-1 with a GLORIOUS winner late in the match at Anfield. The teams switch sides here though as the Chelsea will be hosts to the rematch here. I love Chelsea and Hazard, currently playing like the best player in the world, here to take at least a point from Liverpool. Chelsea (Pick +105).

Sunday, September 30th
11:00 am EST

Burnley @ Cardiff City – Cardiff City (Pick, -140).

Monday, October 1st
3:00 pm EST

Crystal Palace @ Bournemouth – Bournemouth (-0.5, +115).

Atletico Madrid @ Real Madrid The first Madrid Derby this season will be the first in a long time without Cristiano and Real seem somewhat lost after their 3-0 loss to Sevilla while Atletico are feeling good after a 3-0 home win. Atletico will also be given an extra day of rest and I think that will be crucial in this tight match and I love them with the points here. Atletico (+0.5, -120).

Lazio @ Roma The Derbies continue as we head to Rome for the Rome Derby. Lazio are sitting in 4th while rivals Roma sit down in 10th after a very slow start where they finally won this week after a 6 game winless streak. Meanwhile Lazio have now gone 5 unbeaten and are looking very solid. I’m going to go with something I never do and pick the draw here. It will be a tight, intense affair and I think Lazio keep Roma at bay. DRAW, (+250).

Napoli @ Juventus We continue our amazing matches this weekend with a classic Napoli v Juventus matchup in Turin. These two have battled it out for titles for the last few years and this will be Cristiano’s first, but the series’ 169th matchup. Juventus have gone 6 straight to start the season but will go up against a Napoli side who will be hungry from their disappointing end to last season after coming up short to Juve for the title. I like Napoli with the points here although it is the unconventional pick. Napoli (+0.5, +115).

That is all for my preview this weekend with 13 matches to choose from; a huge Chelsea/Liverpool match and 3 other European matches including 2 derbies. Enjoy!!

Stay Kickin’ It. Peace.
